About this office
The Italian Consulate General in New York is one of the busiest Italian offices in the United States. Its published DoV procedure sets specific rules about who signs academic copies, how that signature is notarized and apostilled, and which documents need Italian translation.
Getting a Declaration of Value Involves More Than Filling Out a Form.
A DoV application can involve several separate parties, and without help you may have to coordinate each one yourself.
We bring all these moving parts together into one organized workflow.
From Your School to the Italian Consulate.
We help coordinate each stage of your file, so you aren't left working out notarization, apostilles, translations and application preparation on your own.

Why New York Cases Need Their Own Workflow
- New York's official instructions state that certified copies of diplomas and transcripts must be signed by the principal or registrar, and that signature is authenticated by a notary before the apostille.
- Italian translations are required for the diploma and transcripts. The instructions state that the apostille itself does not need to be translated.
- Application signature and execution rules can vary with how the application is submitted. We check them against the current form.
- The district covers New York, northern New Jersey, Fairfield County (CT) and Bermuda, so apostilles may come from more than one state.

More than one degree?
A PhD DoV also requires separate Bachelor's and Master's DoVs. If the schools fall under different consulates, each degree may need separate processing.
New York Declaration of Value FAQs
Which schools fall under the Italian Consulate in New York?
Schools in New York, northern New Jersey, Fairfield County in Connecticut and Bermuda are generally in the New York district. The school's location decides this.
Who needs to sign my academic documents for New York?
Under New York's current instructions, the principal or registrar signs the certified copy of the diploma or transcript, and a notary authenticates that signature before the apostille.
Does the apostille need to be translated for New York?
New York's current instructions state that the apostille itself does not require translation. The diploma and transcripts do.
Does my diploma need an apostille for a New York DoV?
Generally yes. The notarized school-official attestation for your diploma is apostilled by the competent state authority. We check the exact sequence against the New York Consulate's current instructions.
Does my transcript need an apostille?
Transcripts are usually prepared and apostilled along with the diploma. The exact handling follows the New York Consulate's current instructions.
Can I apostille a photocopy of my diploma?
No. A photocopy by itself cannot be apostilled. The signature of an authorized school official must be properly notarized first, and that notarization is what gets apostilled.
Can I translate my own documents?
We don't recommend it. Consulates expect accurate, consistent academic translations, and the New York Consulate's own translation rules apply. We coordinate professional Italian translations.
I have a PhD. Do I need other DoVs?
A PhD DoV also requires your Bachelor's and Master's DoVs. If those schools fall under different consulates, each degree may need separate processing.
How do I pay the New York Consulate?
Fees and payment methods are set by the consulate and can change. We review its current fee instructions when preparing your case.
Do I need a return envelope?
Return-shipping requirements follow the New York Consulate's current instructions. We prepare the return shipping as part of the package review.
Can you help coordinate the entire process?
Yes. We can coordinate school documents, notarization, apostilles, Italian translation, application preparation and, where included, forwarding and tracking. The Italian consular authority alone decides whether to issue the DoV.
How long does the process take?
It depends on your school, the state apostille office, translation volume and the consulate's own processing time, which we do not control. We give you an estimate for your case.
Are you the Italian Consulate?
No. We are Philadelphia Notary & Apostille, a private document-preparation service. The Declaration of Value is issued only by the competent Italian diplomatic or consular authority.
